NOT LUCKY. DESIGNED.
Our mission: move people and businesses better than anyone.Twelve-plus years in, we've learned that great moves aren't happy accidents. They're the result of hiring the right people, training them relentlessly, and building a team that cares how your day goes. By design.

This Didn't Start as a Business Plan
I'm Igor Stevanovic, co-founder of Blue Crab Moving. It started in high school. When family needed help moving, I was the one they called. That turned into friends of family, then friends of friends. Somebody always knew somebody who needed a hand with a move, and my name kept coming up.
It took me a while to notice, but people were quietly recommending me to each other. That's when it clicked. This wasn't just a favor I kept doing. I actually loved the work. There's something satisfying about taking someone's whole life, carefully, from one place to another, and handing it back to them in better shape than you found it.
At some point I stopped thinking of it as helping out and started thinking of it as what I wanted to do. Twelve years and a few thousand moves later, here we are.
Everything about Blue Crab Moving works backwards from that realization. Hiring people who actually care. Training them to treat a stranger's stuff like it's their own. Running a tight local operation where you're not a line item on a spreadsheet in another state.
That's the whole thing. The rest of this page is just detail.
Our Mission
To move people and businesses better than anyone.
One sentence. The whole company fits inside it. Everything that follows on this page is the work of making that sentence true.
Our People
The Secret Is Boring. It's Just People.
Everything we do as a company traces back to two things: who we hire, and how we train them.
An Army of Missionaries
How We Hire
Skills can be taught. Care cannot. So we flip the usual hiring script: we start with who you are, then move to what you can do.
The crew that shows up at your door isn't a collection of strangers who happened to answer a job ad. They share our definition of "done." They show up on time. They treat your stuff like their grandmother's china. They finish strong even when the clock says they don't have to.
We don't let new hires bring their old culture and values into this company. They either fit what we're striving for, or they don't. The foundation has to be strong, so we stay strict with this. It's the only way it works.
Trained to Make Your Day
How We Train
Anyone with a van can learn to load a truck. Our training goes further.
We teach the mechanics, yes: how to wrap, pad, lift, carry, balance, and stack. But we also teach the things that separate a good move from a great one. How to read a room. When to joke and when to work quietly. How to anticipate what you need before you ask. The difference between doing the job and making someone's day.
By the time a Blue Crab crew member walks into your home, they've been taught both.
Designed, Not Lucky
Every move that goes right starts months earlier.
Customers tell us all the time that we're lucky to have such good movers. They're half right. The crew you meet on move day is genuinely good, and we're lucky to work with them.
But that luck didn't just happen. It was built. Every crew member you meet was hired on purpose, trained on purpose, and kept on purpose. Luck is the story other companies tell. Ours is design.
Growing With Our People
When you invest in people, they invest back. That's why we don't treat our crew like interchangeable labor. We pay fairly, give credit where it's due, and create real paths to move up.
Crew members become leads. Leads become trainers. Trainers become operations people. That pipeline is the reason the person carrying your couch today is likely to be running crews here in a few years, and the reason your next move is likely to be handled by a familiar face.
Every decision we make about this company gets filtered through one question: is this good for the crew? Because the answer to that is usually the same answer to another question: is this good for our customers?
Good Neighbor, Good Business
Maryland-Owned. Maryland-Rooted.
We live here. We work here. We look out for each other.
Being a small, local business in the DMV means something. Our neighbors are our customers. Our customers are our neighbors. And when we can give back, we do.
From our junk-disposal jobs, we donate reusable items to local charities whenever possible. We'd rather see a couch end up in someone's living room than a landfill. Usable furniture and appliances find second homes instead of second lives in a trash heap. It's not a marketing program. It's just how we run this place.
We're a Maryland small business, and we plan to be one for a long time. That means treating every move as a chance to leave this community a little better than we found it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most.
Blue Crab Moving Services is owner-operated by co-founders Igor Stevanovic and Milan Jovanovic. Both bring 12+ years of moving experience across Maryland, D.C., Virginia, and West Virginia. Igor leads the customer side (quotes, communications, booking) and Milan runs day-to-day operations and dispatch.
Blue Crab Moving Services was founded in February 2026 and is headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. While the company itself is new, both co-founders bring 12+ years of DMV moving experience that predates the company.
Yes. Blue Crab Moving operates under USDOT 4539918 and MC 1801440. Both can be verified independently on the FMCSA SAFER system. We carry full cargo insurance and our crews are W-2 employees, not contractors.
We serve four jurisdictions across the DMV region from our Gaithersburg, Maryland headquarters:
- Maryland: Montgomery County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Frederick County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore City
- Washington, D.C.: all wards, including Capitol Hill, Logan Circle, Georgetown, and the rowhouse-heavy NE/NW corridors
- Northern Virginia: Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties
- West Virginia Eastern Panhandle: Jefferson and Berkeley counties (Martinsburg, Charles Town, Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry)
Three things, in our view:
- Owner-operated, not franchise. Igor and Milan personally handle quotes and run dispatch. There is no corporate booking team filtering you through scripts.
- Binding flat-rate quotes. The number on your written quote is the number you pay on move day. No fuel-surcharge surprises.
- Same crew, start to finish. The team that loads your truck is the team that unloads it. No swap-outs at lunch, no rotating subcontractors.
