How do you handle Old Town cobblestones?

Heavier-duty pneumatic-tire dollies and slower transit time. The cobblestones (especially Captain's Row, the cobbled section of Prince Street, and the brick stretches around Market Square) beat up standard hard-rubber wheels and the seams are unforgiving on loaded furniture, antique pieces, and pianos. We use specialty rigging on grand pianos and large case goods, and we lay padded runners across the worst blocks before any furniture comes out. We've moved enough Old Town homes to know which blocks need the slower approach and which need a shuttle to a smoother loading point. Brick-stoop entries and original cast-iron railings get full padding before the carry begins.

When's the best time to move in Alexandria?

Spring (March through May) is ideal except during cherry blossom peak (late March to early April) when the Memorial Bridge, GW Parkway, and downtown D.C. routes from our Gaithersburg HQ clog with tourist traffic. Fall (September through November) is the second-best window except during Marine Corps Marathon weekend in late October, when route closures affect the GW Parkway and the Mall-area streets we use. Summer Saturdays in Old Town are tourist-heavy on King Street; we dispatch midweek or early-morning Saturday when we can. Cost depends on declared value of your shipment and is itemized on the binding quote, never tacked on later.
